In short
- You stay on the same account with your designs, with nothing to migrate.
- Before cancelling, download what matters and note down your brand kit.
- You lose features such as automatic resizing and Pro elements.
It’s for you if…
- You only use Canva now and then for simple designs.
- Almost all your templates and elements are already free.
- You pay for Pro but do not make use of its advanced features.
Better pick something else if…

Step by step
Check what you use from Pro
Open your most frequent designs and see whether they use elements with the Pro crown. If there are few, you will not miss the plan.
Download your key designs
Before cancelling, download what you use often as PDF or PNG, especially logos and designs with Pro elements.
Note down your brand
Copy your colour codes, font names and logos to a document. They are the hardest things to recover later.
Cancel the renewal
In Settings, under billing and plans, cancel your plan. You normally keep Pro until the end of the paid period.
Filter by free
When searching for photos, templates or elements, use the price filter to see only free ones. That way you avoid watermarks when downloading.
Cover what is missing
To cut out backgrounds or retouch in more detail, use Photopea. For more free templates, also try Adobe Express.
Files and formats
There is nothing to convert: your designs stay in your account. The free plan lets you download PNG, JPG, PDF and other common formats. Some designs with Pro elements may ask for payment or show watermarks when downloaded. Swap those elements for free ones before exporting.
What you won’t find
- Designs with Pro elements may come out with a watermark or ask for payment.
- No automatic resizing: each format is adapted by hand.
- You have less storage, and if you go over you may need to free some before uploading more.
Tips
- Cancel a few days before renewal and note the date, to avoid an unexpected charge.
- If you signed up from a phone, you may need to cancel in the App Store or Google Play.
- Make your own templates with free elements and duplicate them: it saves resizing in many cases.
